Instructor Biography

Horses on our farm are family, which is why it is even more important to be able to provide the necessary assistance and care, prior to the veterinarian arriving and during recovery. The Equi-Health Course does not replace veterinarian care, but rather assists by providing necessary information, such as vitals, and a deeper understanding about the situation. It would be my pleasure to share the Equine First Aid Course with your barn or club, with the intention of promoting a higher level of care to our equine family.

Location: Although we are located in Saskatchewan, Desiree looks forward to working with other horse enthusiasts from across North America.

Desiree Nelson - EHC Instructor

Desiree is a certified Equi-Health Canada/Equi-First Aid USA Instructor, certified N.C.C.P. coach, holds a B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan, a Diploma in Equine Studies from the University of Guelph and is currently working on her Masters in Adult Education.

She grew up on a farm near Prince Albert, Sk. and has been riding and showing horses from an early age. Her first horse show was at 19 months of age, where she rode her pony at the Prince Albert Exhibition. Desiree has shown in 4-H and open horse shows, competing successfully on the Heritage Classic Circuit. She has also been part of the NorthEast Riding Club,

qualifying for several years for the Saskatchewan Riding Club Association Provincial Finals, and winning many provincial titles.

Desiree rides both English and Western, primarily instructed by her mother Pamela, an Equine Canada coach, as well by the late Elaine Partington. In addition, she has taken numerous clinics and has worked alongside Chris Irwin.

Working with the babies and young horses is a joy and privilege for Desiree. One of the greatest feelings is working hard with a youngster and being rewarded by reaching and surpassing the goals that were set.

Desiree currently rides Super Flashy Norelco, also known as "Dante" an APHA gelding, as well as her Warmblood gelding Solomon's Mask or "Solo" (Pictured Bottom Left).
